ASUU Directs Members To Join Two-Days NLC strike

The Academic Staff Union Of Universities has directed its members to join the two-day strike by the National labour congress.

The Informant News source gathered that the ASUU’s national president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed this. He said the union is an affiliate of the NLC hence would act accordingly.

The scheduled start date for the nationwide strike is September 6, 2023.

The withdrawal of fuel subsidies, the depreciation of the naira, and reported threats by Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to destroy properties owned by workers in the federal capital have prompted the NLC to go on a two-day warning strike.

Accroding to the ASUU President, We are members of NLC, affiliates, therefore if they declare a strike, our members will be part of it

“The ball is in the government’s hands. Let them solve the problem, and then there won’t be a strike. If NLC decides to go on strike, as an affiliate we don’t have any option but to comply.”

The proposed strike could have an impact on the over 81 universities that make up ASUU.

There are 38 state universities and 43 federal universities among them.
